  • The Swallownest ‘Stop the Noise’ campaign aims to stop noise from the nearby gas-fuelled power peaking plants that are disturbing local residents.
  • Residents are frustrated by the level of noise pollution from these plants over the last 13 months.
  • On Friday 5th February Alexander Stafford hosted a meeting between the local Council and Swallownest residents to discuss solutions to this problem.

On Friday 5th February Alexander Stafford organised a meeting with residents of the Aston Manor estate in Swallownest and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) representatives from both the planning and enforcement departments, regarding the ongoing issues with noise pollution from the nearby gas-peaking plants over the past 13 months.

Over 30 households from the Swallownest ‘Stop the Noise’ Campaign are demanding measures be put in place to stop noise pollution in the local area.

Alexander’s meeting gave residents the opportunity to question RMBC officers directly and hear the Council’s plans to resolve this problem quickly.

RMBC representatives assured residents that the Council will be applying to the High Court to serve a noise abatement notice.

Commenting, Alexander Stafford MP said:

“This issue has been allowed to continue for far too long and I am pleased that Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council have not only acknowledged that mistakes have been made in the past but are also now taking steps to end the misery of residents.

“It is important that Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council now uses all their available powers and resources to sort this issue out.

“I will monitor this issue very closely and continue to raise this important matter with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council. I fully support residents in their call to end their suffering and will do everything I can to assist them in this campaign.”
