Letter to the RA
  • In a letter to the editor, published in a recent edition of the Rotherham Advertiser, Alexander Stafford MP urges readers to support his calls for the £20 million to be spent upgrading high streets in his Rother Valley constituency
  • Readers invited to complete survey on how and where money should be spent

As part of his campaign to secure a slice of the Government's £4.8 billion Levelling Up Fund for his Rother Valley constituency, local MP Alexander Stafford has written a letter to the editor of the Rotherham Advertiser, urging readers to complete his survey and back his bid.

Commenting, Alexander said:

It is crucial that Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council submits a strong bid to secure the £20 million available in grant funding for local projects here in Rother Valley as part of the Goverment's Levelling Up Fund.

I believe that our bid should focus on improving our high streets and shopping areas across Rother Valley, making them fit for the future by making them an attractive place to visit and shop.

For this to happen, I think this grant should be used to invest in secure community infrastructure and crime reduction, upgrade eyesore buildings and dated infrastructure and bring public services and safe community spaces into our town centres.

The money is on the table and Rother Valley needs this investment.

RMBC must now deliver and I will do everything that I possibly can to help the council secure this investment for our community.

This is a once in a generation opportunity and we absolutely must seize it.

I am keen to hear from Rother Valley residents to find out where you would most like this investment to go, so please let me know by filling out this very short form on my website.

His letter to the editor read:

RMBC must not miss this rare opportunity

I know that the Advertiser and your readers will have welcomed the announcement in the budget regarding the £4.8 billion Levelling Up Fund, with Rother Valley being eligible for up to £20 million of funding to ensure our areas are improved.

Our area has been designated a priority one area by the Government, meaning we have a great chance at accessing this funding to improve and future proof our local infrastructure.

I believe that our bid should focus on improving our high streets and shopping areas across Rother Valley, making them fit for the future by making them an attractive place to visit and shop, investing in secure community infrastructure and crime reduction, upgrading eyesore buildings and dated infrastructure, and bringing public services and safe community spaces into our town centres.

The money is on the table, and there for the taking and we all need to make sure that Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) submits a strong bid to ensure that Rother Valley gets this long-needed investment.

Let me be clear, this is a once in a generation opportunity and RMBC must seize it with both hands, with backing from myself, our parish councils and , most importantly, our community.

My hope is that RMBC will make full use of this fund and I will do everything that I possibly can to help them secure this investment for Rother Valley. Please do get in touch if you wish to support.
