  • Local Rother Valley MP and longtime campaigner for the protection of the green belt, Alexander Stafford, spoke out against the recently re-submitted application to build 196 new homes on green belt land in Kiveton Park

Alexander Stafford, local MP for Rother Valley, spoke out against the plans to build 196 new homes on former green belt land off Lambrell Avenue in Kiveton Park.

The application was recently resubmitted by developers, who had their initial application rejected by RMBC's planning board in July 2021. Alexander objected to the initial application and does not believe that this second application should be granted either. He has submitted his objection and encourages all residents concerned about the plans to do so as well. Whilst the planning consultation formally ended on 3 September, RMBC have confirmed that representations received after that date will be accepted.

Acknowledging the need for new homes, Alexander said that Labour-led RMBC need to focus on developing brownfield sites and stop concreting over the countryside in Rother Valley.

Alexander said:

I am incredibly disappointed that this green space has been designated by Rotherham Council’s local plan as an area for development. Instead, they should be building on brown belt, not green belt.

I have already submitted my objection and will continue to oppose the concreting over of our nature. I hope that the planning board rejects these awful proposals again and maintains our green spaces.
