Alexander Stafford MP has today written to every Parish Council in Rother Valley offering his support to apply for funding to create new pocket parks in the local area.
Pocket parks are small green spaces accessible to the general public, frequently created on formerly neglected or derelict areas.
Community-led organisations, in partnership with local authorities, can apply for government funding to create new pocket parks and refurbish existing parks.
Since 2016, over 300 community projects that have brought disused pieces of land back into public use with government funding.
These new community spaces are great for people to enjoy, relax and connect with nature and Alexander Stafford MP is determined to ensure the fund is used for local benefit when re-opened for applications.
Commenting, Alexander Stafford MP said:
“Pocket parks are a valuable community resource, used for everything from exercise and socialising to gardening and relaxing.
“These government-backed grants to revitalise under-utilised patches of land could transform our local area. I would be delighted to support local proposals for pocket parks right here in our community and urge all Parish Councils in Rother Valley to come forward with their suggestions.”
