- Conservatives sweep to victory on Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) at local elections, electing a huge 20 councillors from a standing start
- Follows historic election of first ever Conservative Member of Parliament for Rother Valley, Alexander Stafford, in December 2019
Local election results are in for Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC), and, despite the council remaining Labour-controlled, it is a huge victory for Rotherham Conservatives.
Having previously held 0 seats on the council, they are now the official opposition party, having elected 20 new councillors in Rotherham.
This consolidates the historic win for Conservatives in December 2019 when Alexander Stafford took the seat for the first time ever in the General election and proves that Conservatives are here to stay in the area.
In the Rother Valley constituency, 18 out of 25 council seats are now held by Conservative Councillors - the highest number in its history, with practically every seat in the patch having some form of Conservative representation on the borough council.
Conservative Councillors elected include:

Commenting, Rother Valley MP Alexander Stafford said
This is a huge achievement and the most Conservative councillors ever on Rotherham Council. Last local elections the Rotherham Conservatives took 7.4% of the vote and zero councillors, so this is a massive change.
Unfortunately, with 32 seats Labour remains in control; nevertheless, a clear message has been sent to Labour, that they can no longer take our area for granted. They must listen to the people of Rother Valley, and they must start ensuring attention is focused on areas outside Rotherham Town Centre.
I would like to thank everyone who stood, everyone who voted, and everyone who helped organise this election, and send my commiserations to all the candidates who lost – regardless of party.
