Alexander Stafford, the Conservative MP for Rother Valley, has today published an open letter to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council stating his support for Kiveton Park Youth and Community Centre and calling for action to be taken to save this important community asset.
Alexander highlighted the community centre’s role as a hub for the local area as well as a vital resource for young people and those who are vulnerable. He noted that at a time when community spirit is more important than ever due to coronavirus, the closure of the community centre is a retrograde step.
Alexander emphasised the centre’s status as an asset of community value and urged RMBC to act in order to avoid repeating the loss of the day centre in Maltby.
Commenting, Alexander said:
"Kiveton Park Youth and Community Centre is a tremendous facility for local people. It brings our area together and allows people of all ages to gather, socialise, and host events.
"The closure of the centre would prove to be an incalculable loss for Kiveton Park. The coronavirus pandemic should have taught us that community centres are more valuable now than they have ever been.
"I urge RMBC and associated parties to examine Wales Parish Council’s interim solution and throw their weight behind preserving our community centre for generations to come.”
